Ways to deal with a break up

Break ups are the absolute worst. The feeling of hollowness and loneliness eats at you but you can get over that. Yes you are heartbroken and feel ill but your life doesn’t end with a relationship. If it wasn’t meant to be, it wasn’t. There is no magic formula to get over the person you thought you were going to spend your rest of the life with. However, there are ways you can help yourself move on and start life afresh.

Talk

The first step after a break up is to surround yourself with the people who love and support you, could be your family or friends. Going back from ‘we’ to ‘me’ can be a hard transition and you need someone there to help you through it. Talk to them about how you’re feeling. Bottling up your emotions will only make you more miserable and bitter.

Set a routine

Don’t let your day look empty. That gives you the opportunity to think about your break up and all those unwanted feelings come rushing back. Exercise is a great way to take your mind off unpleasant feelings and indulge in some healthy habits too. You can also join a class and learn something that you’ve always wanted to, could be cooking, dancing or a new language.

Remember the good

When we break up, we tend to think that everything good in our life is over. We will never be happy again or never find love again. That is not true! Your life is so much more than your relationship, it has given you so many good memories. It is time to relive them and appreciate what life has to offer you. Pain is a part and parcel of life, but it too shall pass.

Work on yourself

This is the time to start doing what YOU love. Don’t sit on the couch binge eating ice cream or any sort of comfort food. This is your opportunity to explore your depths and discover your potential. Keep your body and mind active at all times. You can even take a trip to clear your mind and keep things in perspective.

Get off that couch and into the real world!
